Robert W. Baker is executive vice president and general counsel of El Paso Corporation. In his current role, Baker is responsible for overseeing the legal affairs of the company, as well as the internal audit and ethics, environmental remediation and federal governmental affairs functions.
Prior to assuming his current responsibilities, Baker was president of El Paso Global Power. He has also served as senior vice president and deputy general counsel for the corporation. He previously held various legal positions with El Paso Corporation and its subsidiaries, including managing the legal matters associated with telecommunication services, domestic power plant development, and international energy infrastructure projects.
Earlier in his career, he was vice president and associate general counsel of Tenneco Energy and was responsible for managing the legal affairs of its non-jurisdictional commercial units.
During his career at Tenneco Energy, Baker also led the company’s legal team in providing support for FERC regulatory matters, including the implementation of open access transportation on Tenneco’s interstate pipeline systems, handling pipeline rate cases, and working on pipeline certificate and tariff matters. Prior to working at Tenneco Energy, he provided legal support on exploration and production matters, as well as regulatory compliance with federal and state laws for Texaco Inc.
Baker earned Bachelor of Arts and Science degrees in business, economics, and accounting at the University of Delaware and a law degree from The University of Texas Law School. He is licensed to practice law in Texas and Louisiana and is a member of the Federal Energy Bar Association and the International Bar Association. |
