Robert M. Hess is one of the founding members of Ocean Tomo working out of the Chicago office. His consulting efforts at Ocean Tomo are concentrated in the areas of damages expert witness testimony in intellectual property infringement lawsuits and general valuation assistance along with overseeing the financial management of the firm.
Mr. Hess’ consulting and valuation experience has encompassed a diverse range of industries including manufacturing, financial institutions, healthcare, construction, oil and gas exploration, government agencies including the Department of Justice and not-for-profit organizations. He has assisted counsel in the litigation process by performing accounting, financial, economic and audit reviews and prepared the corresponding presentation analyses and expert reports. He has assisted counsel with respect to all litigation phases through trial including discovery and document management, deposition and cross-examination assistance, and trial testimony and exhibit preparation. Mr. Hess has also provided expert testimony.
Mr. Hess has consulted in the determination of both liability and damages issues arising from cases of patent infringement, breach of contract, reasonable royalty, misappropriation of trade secrets, price erosion, lost profits, trademark infringement, accountant’s liability and antitrust claims. He has also conducted royalty compliance audits, financial investigations of joint ventures, non-performing business units and fraud and embezzlement situations; and assessed potential merger, acquisition and divestiture candidates. He has also performed many due diligence reviews on a variety of companies and divisions for the purpose of informing management of strategic financial considerations.
Before joining Ocean Tomo, Mr. Hess spent almost ten years at an IP consultancy, and prior to his work there he worked in Big Four Public Accounting.
Mr. Hess holds an MBA from Northwestern University, a BBA in Accounting from the University of Notre Dame, and is a Licensed CPA in the State of Illinois. |
