Robert L. Long is President, Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Transocean Inc. Prior to being named to his current position in October 2002, he served in various executive-level positions. He was elected Vice President in 1987, Senior Vice President in 1990, Senior Vice President and CFO in 1996, Senior Vice President, Treasurer and CFO in 1997, Executive Vice President, Treasurer and CFO in 2000, President in 2001 and President and Chief Operating Officer in 2002.
Mr. Long joined the company in 1976 as Corporate Planning Manager and has held numerous operational and financial roles over his 30-year career, including Division Engineer and Division Manager of the North Sea and Egypt.
A 1968 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Mr. Long attended the U.S. Naval Nuclear Power School and in 1975 earned an M.B.A. in Finance from the Harvard Graduate School of Business.
In addition, Mr. Long is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) and will serve as IADC's Vice Chairman in 2006. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA).
