Robert L. "Bob" Carlen joined Crescent Real Estate Equities Company in 1998 and serves as vice president of property management. Mr. Carlen directs 70 staff members and oversees the ten buildings of Greenway Plaza totaling 4.3 million square feet, a 389-room hotel, and a 120,000 square foot athletic club. In addition, Mr. Carlen is an officer in the company and supervises several company-wide operational activities.
Mr. Carlen has twenty-six years of property and management experience. Prior to joining Crescent, he was a senior vice president for six years with Senterra Real Estate Group, former owner of Greenway Plaza. He also was vice president of the Eastern Region for a partnership between Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company and Standard Management Company of Los Angeles, California from 1979-1992. His responsibilities included leasing and management of 22 properties in Ohio, Oklahoma, and Georgia. These properties were primarily specialty retail, office and also included 3,000 apartment units and 1.5 million square feet of industrial space.
Prior to joining the Northwestern Mutual Life/Standard Management Group Mr. Carlen was focused on the resort business and served as vice president of operations for Fairfield Communities in Tennessee, Arkansas, and North Carolina from 1972-1979.
Mr. Carlen graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Leisure Facility Management and was named as "Distinguished Alumni" in 1989. He is a Certified Property Manager (CPM) and serves on the executive board of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), and the advisory board for Eastern Illinois University's School of Business. Mr. Carlen is a member of the Houston Association of Realtors (HAR), Urban Land Institute (ULI), Texas Association of Realtors (TAR), the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA), International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), International Facility Managers Association (IFMA), National Association of Realtors (NAR), and the Greater Houston Partnership.
Mr. Carlen has been involved in community affairs and has served on several voluntary agency boards including the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo BBQ Committee, EV1.NET Bowl Advisory Board ("Volunteer of the Year"/2000 inaugural season); Richmond State School Volunteer; and is a member of The Houston City Club Board of Directors. |
