E. Robert Wassman, M.D. joined Celula, Inc. as President and Chief Executive Officer in 2006, a year after the Company’s founding. Dr. Wassman is a pioneer in the areas of genetic testing, counseling, and personalized medicine. Under his leadership Celula has expanded the scope of applications for its technology and positioned itself to drive innovation in critical emerging areas of diagnostics and therapeutics in the future. He was instrumental to the early commercial success of private genetic testing as Vice President of The Genetics Institute (later Alfigen, Inc.). Prior to joining Celula, he was Vice President, National Medical Director of Genzyme Genetics where he held operational responsibility for all clinical services and genetic counseling, and also lead business development and new product implementation for their reproductive franchise. He has held a wide range of executive, professional, and consultative positions in diagnostic technology implementation for biomedical businesses and government agencies in the US and the Far East, and served as Chief of the Southern California Region for the California Department of Health, Children’s Medical Services. He holds a B.S. cum laude from Yale University and an M.D. from Albany Medical College. He received additional specialized training at the National Institutes of Health, Cornell University-NY Hospital, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, and the Harvard School of Public Health. He is Board certified in pediatrics, clinical genetics and clinical cytogenetics, and has licensure in molecular diagnostics. |
