Based in San Francisco, Robert Stiles is a Principal and Managing Director of Sonnenblick-Goldman and heads the firm’s International Lodging and Leisure Group in the Western North American and Asian regions. He also overseas the firm’s overall operations on the West Coast. His responsibilities include originating, marketing and structuring of equity and debt real estate transactions.
Mr. Stiles joined Sonnenblick-Goldman Company as a Managing Director and Principal in early 1999 and with the opening of offices in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Sydney, has played a critical role in establishing the firm as an international leader in hotel capital transactions. Since 1999, he has completed many of the largest and most complex asset sale, financing and development transactions internationally including many of the largest hotel financing transactions in the US; the first international sale of a hotel in Japan; a structured sale of a joint-venture interest in the ski resort of Telluride, and; the $200 million construction financing for the Montage Hotel & Residences in the heart of Beverly Hills’ golden Triangle. Prior to his tenure with Sonnenblick-Goldman Company, he was a founding partner and Group Managing Director of Horwath Asia Pacific - where he was responsible for advising both U.S. and Asian clients on over US$5 billion in development, finance and investment transactions since 1986.
With more than 20 years of experience in hotel and resort development, finance and transaction advisory services, Rob is a frequent speaker at leading hotel finance and investment events around the world. He also serves on the International Advisory Board of HOTELS Investment Outlook magazine where he authors a quarterly column on hotel finance, has guest lectured at Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration and at Singapore’s National Technical University’s Masters Program and is a co-founder of Asia’s two premiere hotel investment conferences in Hong Kong and Tokyo and is a Co-Chairman of the International Lodging Finance Council (ILFC). Rob has a Bachelor of Science degree with a focus in development and finance from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration. |
