Ms. Hartman focuses in the area of labor and employment law. Her representative work includes: Serving as second chair for five years in defending a discrimination class action against The Boeing Company. Working on all aspects of the case, including conducting factual investigations, handling discovery, briefing all legal issues, arguing motions, and trying the case in federal court to yield a complete defense victory. Successfully representing employers such as Boeing, Starbucks, and Amazon.com in employment matters in state and federal courts. Advising and counseling employers on various employment issues, such as discipline, harassment, accommodation of disabilities, family and medical leave, wage and hour laws, reductions in force, the legal status of independent and temporary workers, and the enforcibility of noncompete agreements; Drafting and auditing employment agreements, handbooks, policies, and forms; Conducting investigations into internal and external charges of discrimination or harassment and handling all aspects of responding to agency charges; and Providing employment law training to Human Resources professionals. Prior To Maynard Cooper: Ms. Hartman was a partner with the law firm of Perkins Coie, L.L.P. in Seattle and Bellevue, Washington. She served for three years on the firm's Hiring Committee during a period of tremendous growth and was selected to chair the firm's Women and Minority Lawyer's Committee. Prior to working at Perkins Coie, Ms. Hartman served as a law clerk to the Honorable Frank M. Johnson, Jr. in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit from 1994-1995.
