Richard Burns is president of network services for wireless at AT&T. In that role, Burns oversees all phases of wireless network engineering, construction, operations and maintenance to insure high quality network service throughout the wireless operations at AT&T.
Burns previously served as chief integration officer - Broadband, BellSouth Corporation, where he had the responsibility for the company's continuing transformation to a competitive wireless and broadband company from a traditional wireline communications provider. He also had responsibility of the deployment and operations for BellSouth's DSL and Internet services, the provisioning and reliability centers, all network operations support and the company's supply chain services.
Burns also formerly led an enterprise-wide strategic effort to transform the cost structure within BellSouth Domestic Communications. This transformational agenda focused on process and operations excellence.
In previous assignments, Burns was president of Broadband and Internet Services with responsibility for the deployment, marketing and operations of broadband. He also held the position of network vice president in the states of Tennessee and Kentucky and then later in Georgia, and was responsible for all network operations within those states.
Burns started his career with BellSouth (formerly South Central Bell) as a management assistant in 1976. He has held numerous positions over the years with increasing responsibilities in Network Planning, Engineering and Operations.
A native of Louisville, Ky., Burns holds Bachelor and Master of Engineering degrees from the University of Louisville and an M.B.A. from Vanderbilt University. He has been involved in community affairs having served on campaigns for both the Atlanta Symphony and Junior Achievement. He is currently on the boards of Junior Achievement - Georgia as well as Georgia Telco Credit Union. |
