As a father of five, Rick can usually be found coaching his children's sports teams when he's not performing audits, preparing tax returns, or providing advisory services.
Rick has been working with closely held businesses for more than 20 years. He began college as an English major, but was also taking accounting courses and soon found that he preferred accounting as a major. The switch was not as extreme as some might think.
"There are similarities between writing and accounting," he said. "Both involve conceptual thinking and moving things around to find the right order or the best, and proper, presentation."
Rick believes he made the right choice. "What I like about accounting is that, on any given day, I can get a call from a client relating to any kind of business advice. Working with clients on those special types of advisory services really makes it interesting and rewarding."
