Richard Coe joined the firm in 2004 after a one-year clerkship with the Honorable Jan E. DuBois in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Since arriving at the firm, Richard has worked on complex commercial disputes in federal and state courts involving a wide range of issues, ranging from consumer class actions to products liability. His practice focuses on securities and antitrust issues.
Securities Litigation. Richard has helped to defend clients in SEC enforcement actions and criminal investigations. He has represented the officers and trustees of mutual funds against a number of class and derivative claims, including those related to allegations of market timing, late trading, and allegedly improper "shelf space" arrangements. Richard has defended against claims asserted under the federal securities laws, the Investment Company Act of 1940, and California and Pennsylvania state securities law.
Antitrust. Richard counsels clients on a variety of issues involving state and federal antitrust laws. Currently, he represents a client in a monopolization investigation being conducted by Attorneys General of a number of states. He has also counseled pharmaceutical companies on antitrust issues, including those related to the settlement of patent litigation and the marketing of authorized generics.
In General. Before law school, Richard served as an officer in the United States Navy for five years. He was a surface warfare officer on the USS John Paul Jones, a destroyer, and a nuclear engineer on the USS Theodore Roosevelt, an aircraft carrier. While in law school, Richard was a legal writing instructor, tried a case before a jury and argued motions as a student prosecutor in the Essex County District Attorney's office, and served as the head Class Marshal for the Class of 2003. He is active in the firm’s pro bono program and supports the firm’s relationship with the City Year Youth Service Corps. |
