A Georgetown University Law Center graduate, member of the New Jersey Bar, former Director of Government Affairs at American Express, and former senior staff member for Senator Conrad Burns (MT), Renny brings real-world fundraising experience, government-compliance expertise, and general legal knowledge to the Torrent management team. While serving as a senior advisor on the strategic team responsible for the Burns 2000 campaign themes and messaging, Renny held the post of Finance Director, managing federal compliance and legal aspects of the campaign. During his eight-year tenure with Senator Burns, Renny served as Legislative Assistant on the Appropriation, Commerce, and Energy Committees.
As Director of Government Affairs for American Express, Renny advised senior American Express business leaders Ken Chenault, President and CEO, as well as Pam Arway, Executive Vice President for Travel and Tourism, and other business leaders on legislative and regulatory changes affecting American Express business lines. Renny sought to maintain American Express' competitive advantage in legacy business lines, while helping business leaders interpret potential business problems and opportunities created by federal legislative and regulatory changes. Renny's work helped American Express identify emerging markets created by laws such as the USA Patriot Act, anti-spam mandates, and regulatory changes in travel and tourism. As a registered federal lobbyist, Renny assisted in laws written in the House and Senate Appropriation, Banking, Commerce, and Finance Committees as well as within President Bush's administration.
Renny has raised money for President Bush and numerous members of Congress including Senator John McCain. Clients advised include AT&T, MCI, Bresnan Communications, POSCO Steel, and the United States Republic of Guam. |
