Ray is a partner in the litigation department and has tried over fifty jury cases to verdict. Ray focuses his practice on civil and criminal litigation, in particular, complex commercial, insurance coverage, and tort litigation, including shareholder and partnership disputes, representation of professionals in disciplinary proceedings and First Amendment representation.
Ray is recognized as one of the Best Lawyers in America in litigation and he is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He is also a speaker on how to handle the press in highly publicized cases.

Obtained permanent injunction in pro bono National Environmental Policy Act case against the United States Navy on behalf of two Eastern North Carolina counties to prevent construction of an outlying landing field.
National trial counsel for manufactured housing client involving death and serious injury cases.
Defended an international insurance brokerage firm for alleged errors and omissions in the procurement of fidelity coverage.
Defended and prosecuted claims for directors and officers liability coverage for major financial institution and investment capital firm.
Defended major American denomination and North Carolina group home in alleged sexual abuse claims.
Represented professionals before North Carolina Medical Board, North Carolina State Bar, North Carolina Board of Nursing, and North Carolina Board of Psychiatrists proceedings.
Defended and prosecuted claims for dissolution of real estate, professional partnerships, and corporations.
