Pierre Verstraete is group vice president and president, Latin America region, for the Global Pharmaceutical Business of Schering-Plough Corporation.
Verstraete joined Schering-Plough in 1986 as general manager, Venezuela, and moved to Mexico as general manager in 1988. He spent a year in the United States as vice president, marketing and then resumed his international career with the company as vice president and general manager for Spain. Prior to his current position, Verstraete served as senior vice president and general manager for France, a position he held since 1996. Verstraete began his career in the pharmaceutical industry in 1982 with Ciba-Geigy as manager for the company's pharmaceutical division in Bogota, Colombia.
Verstraete graduated from University "I.C.A.M.," Institute of Art and Technology, in France, as a mechanical and industrial engineer. He has taken active roles in various pharmaceutical associations in France, Mexico and Spain. During his tenure in Mexico, Verstraete was vice president and president of the U.S. Pharmaceutical Association and was involved in developing and implementing the Pharmaceutical Industry Modernization Program with the Mexican government within the framework of the North American Free Trade Agreement between Canada, the United States and Mexico. |
