Born in 1955 in London (UK), Pierre Ollivier obtained his Law Degree at Caen University in 1976 and a postgraduate degree in International Business law at Paris 1 University in 1978.
Ollivier joined Clifford Turner (now Clifford Chance) after graduation, where he worked on various M&A litigation and corporate restructuring matters. Following this enriching experi-ence in a private law firm, in 1982 Ollivier transitioned to the corporate world by joining Stein Heurtey, an engineering firm, where he was responsible for legal affairs. In this role, Ollivier negotiated with a consortium of multiple suppliers to build the first modern steel plant in India (Visakhapatnam).
In 1984, Ollivier joined Thomson CSF, a parent Company to STMicroelectronics, where he first worked in the Electronics systems and equipment branch. In 1986, Ollivier moved to Thomson’s corporate headquarters, where he dealt with two major M&A transactions involving the exchange between Thomson and General Electric of their respective consumer electronics and medical businesses and the purchase by Thomson of Philips’ military business. Ollivier became general counsel of STMicroelectronics in 1990, a position he has held since, helping the Company growth from its then $1.3B in revenue, through an IPO on two major stock exchanges in 1994, to revenue of approximately $10B in 2007.
In January 2008, Ollivier was promoted to Corporate Vice President, General Counsel. In addition to legal matters involving contracts, litigation and general corporate matters, his responsibilities include developing the protection and extraction of value from ST’s Intellectual Property, as well as the negotiation and management of worldwide insurance programs for ST’s global group of companies. From 1994 until 2007, Ollivier also acted as Executive Secretary to the Secretariat of the Supervisory Board. |
