Mr. Russell advises clients on matters relating to defense and homeland security. Prior to joining Dykema Gossett, Mr. Russell served as Projects Director and Defense Policy Advisor in the office of Senator Fred Thompson (R-TN) and, later, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN). During this time, Mr. Russell coordinated an array of defense and homeland security policy issues as well as working closely with appropriations and authorization committee staff and Congressional offices on Defense, Military Construction, and Homeland Security Appropriations Bills. A U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Colonel, Mr. Russell was deployed twice to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. In his most recent deployment he served as the Senior Military Advisor to the Political-Military Affairs Section at the U.S. Embassy, Baghdad, and as Liaison officer for the First Marine Expeditionary Force. During the course of his 37 years of service in the U.S. military, Mr. Russell has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Joint Service Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge. Mr. Russell has been invited frequently and has talked on security matters at the NATO School in Oberammergau, Germany. He received his Bachelor Degree in Arts, Psychology from David Lipscomb College in Nashville, Tennessee. Subsequently, he received an advance diploma in Strategic Intelligence from the Defense Intelligence College in Washington, D.C. |
