As corporate vice president and CFO of Microsoft’s Business Division (MBD), Peter Klein oversees the financial performance of the two business groups that comprise the Business Division: Information Worker and Business Solutions.
Before joining the MBD Division in February 2006, Klein was CFO of Microsoft’s Server & Tools Business Group (STB) where he was responsible for overall financial management including financial and strategic planning, reporting and analysis as well as communications to the investment community. Preceding his role as CFO of STB, Klein led the finance team for the Developer and Platform Evangelism Division, a role he took when he joined Microsoft in 2002.
Prior to joining Microsoft, Klein spent 13 years in corporate finance in the Seattle area, primarily in the communications and technology sectors. This includes 4 years at McCaw Cellular Communications, where he helped drive the planning and implementation of the nationwide digital cellular network. Klein moved to Orca Bay Capital, a private equity firm, after McCaw was sold to AT&T, and for three years he managed a portfolio of public and private equity, debt and real property.
Subsequently, Klein was in finance management at several startup companies, including CFO at Asta Networks and vice president and treasurer at Homegrocer.com. At Homegrocer.com, he helped lead an IPO and subsequent acquisition by Webvan.
