Peter Garrett is currently a consultant in the area of corporate management and technology commercialization.
Recently, as President and Chief Executive Officer of Global Thermoelectric Inc., Pete drove the successful merger of Global with FuelCell Energy Inc., creating over $100M in new value for shareholders. Before assuming the role of President, Pete served as Chief Operating Officer of Global, where he restructured and streamlined Global’s world-leading fuel cell technology development program for accelerated results.
Prior to joining Global, Pete had a 21 year career at Nortel Networks where for the last 4 years he was Vice President of Wireless Product Development. In this role, Pete had global responsibility for development of Nortel’s second and third generation of North American standard wireless products, managing a group of 1200 engineers and scientists in 7 labs on 4 continents.
Pete is an expert at commercializing new technology with a proven track record. He has consulted with many companies and organizations, and has served on numerous boards and advisory committees. He is Chair of Calgary Technologies Inc., a technology company incubator. He is a member of the Board of Management of the Alberta Science and Research Authority (ASRA), which invests $100M in technology research and development annually for the Government of Alberta. On the ASRA board, Pete has chaired the Innovation Task Force and and co-chaired the Access to Capital Task Force. He is also a member of the board of the Calgary Center for Innovative Technology (CCIT) at the University of Calgary, and sits on the Internal Review Committee of iCore, an IT research organization. He has a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, graduating with distinction from the University of Calgary in 1980.
