Career Peter Bevan joined the BP group in 1970 after qualifying as a solicitor with a City of London firm. He worked initially in the law department of BP Chemicals and then of the parent company. Subsequently he became manager of the legal function within BP Exploration and then assistant company secretary, followed by deputy group legal adviser. In September 1992 he became group general counsel. He became an executive vice president of BP p.l.c. in 1998. His main areas of expertise are corporate and company matters, mergers and acquisitions, finance, and cross-jurisdictional and cross-business issues.
