Peter J. Betts, FACHE, is a seasoned healthcare professional with over 35 years of senior executive experience in a range of healthcare issues, including interim and turnaround management, hospital consolidation, physician network development, professional contract negotiation and medical staff bylaws. Peter has made major contributions to large and small public, private, and faith-based not-for-profit hospitals in urban and rural communities.
Prior to joining Focus Management Group, Peter successfully led healthcare institutions through growth, repositioning and reorganization periods to maximize profits and improve profitability. In his most recent role, Peter offered innovative strategies to boards and executive leadership of healthcare organizations. During his tenure, he successfully consolidated two hospitals ahead of schedule with no disruption of service, provided interim management for two hospitals, successfully returning both to profitability, and reengineered revenue cycle, adding 3% of net revenues to the bottom line and reducing receivables by 20%.
Peter has served in a variety of senior executive roles in healthcare organizations. In another previous role, Peter served as President and CEO of a $600MM, two hospital service district system with a flagship 475-bed general acute care facility and a managed 50-bed rural facility. His accomplishments resulted in dramatically improving fiscal and managerial health for the hospital. Highlights of these accomplishments are:
Increased net reserves from $4MM to $100MM while investing over $300MM in capital equipment and facilities
Achieved turnarounds at two facilities of $12 million and $655,000 in less than 6 months
Reengineered the revenue cycle to increase the bottom line by $57 million over 5 years
Grew market share for 19 consecutive years
Pete has authored a variety of publications covering hospital turnarounds, revenue cycle improvement and strategic planning. He is a Life Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a Board Member to the Louisiana Hospital Association, Blue Cross of Louisiana, East Jefferson Community Health Center, Partners National Plan HMO and Delta Health Network HMO and PPO. He received his Master's Degree in Business Administration from the Florida Institute of Technology and his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Washington State University.
