Dr. Pockros, a graduate of the University of Southern California (USC) School of Medicine, served his internal medicine residency at the USC Medical Center with fellowships in Gastroenterology at Scripps Clinic and in Hepatology at the USC-Rancho Los Amigos Liver Unit. He has been a member of Scripps Clinic since 1985. Dr. Pockros practices general gastroenterology and has a special interest in liver disease. He is the past Medical Director of the Liver Transplantation Program at Scripps Clinic and has extensive experience in evaluating and caring for patients with serious liver conditions.
In addition, Dr. Pockros serves as Director of the Liver Disease Center at Scripps Clinic, one of the largest tertiary referral centers for chronic viral hepatitis in the United States. Dr. Pockros is a principal or co-investigator in a large number of clinical trials for treatments of chronic liver disease, especially for chronic viral hepatitis B and C. He is a Skaggs Clinical Scholar at the Scripps Research Institute and is currently Director of the SC Liver Research Consortium, a group of 47 centers throughout the U.S. who participate in large multi-center liver disease trials. He lectures and is active in publication of more than 100 abstracts and journal articles in the areas of liver disease and, particularly, new treatments for chronic viral hepatitis. He is chairman of the annual conference entitled New Treatments in Chronic Liver Disease held at Scripps Clinic each spring. |
