Paul Dagum serves as Chief Scientist and Strategy Officer of Business.com, overseeing technology strategy and innovation in information retrieval, pricing and auction models, yield management and search engine marketing.Before joining Business.com, Paul was at Mohr Davidow Ventures where he collaborated with partners to evaluate high-impact business opportunities in internet technology and medical devices.Prior to MDV, Paul was Co-Founder and Chief Science Officer at Rapt, an enterprise-software company for profit optimization. At Rapt, Paul managed all product development and led the innovation in algorithms and analytics development. Prior to Rapt, Paul was at Stanford University, where he was principal investigator (PI) on several NSF and NIH grants. Among these, two National Science Foundation grants were awarded to him to research and develop industry and medical applications of decision theory. As PI, he led investigations in probabilistic inference and decision optimization. Through his research, Paul developed the fastest known Monte-Carlo algorithm the most commonly used general method to solve large-scale problems. He has also made significant contributions in the areas of Bayesian networks, probability forecasting and control, and randomized algorithm design and analysis.Paul served as a scientist at Rockwell’s decision theory laboratory in Palo Alto, and was a visiting scholar at the International Computer Science Institute in Berkeley. Paul has over 60 peer-review publications in statistics, computer science and biotechnology journals. Paul received a Ph.D. in Theoretical Computer Science from the University of Toronto and an M.D. from Stanford University. |
