Mr. Hartnett has a broad corporate practice with a concentration in mergers and acquisitions and leveraged buy-outs. For many years, he has represented Lee Capital Holdings, a Boston-based merchant banking firm founded by Jonathan O. Lee. Mr. Hartnett also has represented Orion Partners, a leveraged buy-out fund whose limited partners include Duke University, the MacArthur Foundation and the Bishop's Estate.
Working with the Firm's bankruptcy and restructuring group, Mr. Hartnett has recently represented the Unsecured Creditors Committee in the Budget Rent-a-Car bankruptcy proceeding in connection with the court-supervised sale of Budget's North American, Latin American and Asian-Pacific assets to Cendant Corporation and Budget's European, Middle-Eastern and African operations to Avis-Europe Ltd.
Mr. Hartnett's corporate clients include Herald Media, Inc., which publishes The Boston Herald and over 80 local and community newspapers in the metropolitan Boston area; Rice, Heard & Bigelow, Inc. Boston-Based trustees and fiduciaries who have provided wealth management advice and assistance to individuals and charitable institutions for over 50 years; and Lanthorn Technologies, Inc., a start-up software development company which has partnered with a publicly-traded energy company to develop energy demand monitoring and management technologies for industrial and residential applications.
Community Involvement
Working through the Volunteer Lawyers Project of the Boston Bar Association, Mr. Hartnett has provided general corporate and tax advice to tax-exempt community organizations and tax advice and assistance to individual indigent clients.
Mr. Hartnett serves on the Board of Directors of Newton East Little League and is the Vice President and serves on the Board of Directors of Newton Pop Warner Football in Newton, Massachusetts. He also coaches a Pop Warner team. For several years, Mr. Hartnett has served on the United Way's Executive Leadership Breakfast Committee.
