Paul David Miller, Admiral, United States Navy (Retired), is the Retired Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alliant Techsystems, a $1.1 billion aerospace and defense company with leading market positions in munitions, solid rocket propulsion, and composite structures. He joined Alliant in January 1999.
Admiral Miller previously was with Litton Industries, Inc., where he headed Litton Marine Systems and served as President of Sperry Marine Inc. He joined Litton/Sperry Marine in 1994, following a 30-year career in the U.S. Navy. Prior to his retirement, he was Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Atlantic Command, one of five U.S. theater commands, and served concurrently as NATO Supreme Allied Commander-Atlantic. Other major duty assignments included Commander, U.S. Atlantic Fleet, Commander, U.S. Seventh Fleet, and Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (Naval Warfare). He received numerous personal and campaign awards during his distinguished U.S. Navy career.
A native of Roanoke, Virginia, he holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Florida State University and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Georgia. He attended the U.S. Naval War College and the Harvard Business School Executive Management Program, and is the author of several works on leadership and strategy.
He serves on the Board of Directors of SunTrust Bank (Eastern Region).
Paul and his wife Becky have two sons -- Chris, a U.S. Navy Lieutenant serving as an M.D. at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, VA. and Colby, a U.S. Navy ensign serving on USS Arleigh Burke (DDG-51). |
