Paul McFarlane Biography :

Paul McFarlane is a litigator who focuses primarily in the areas of insurance, injury and property/casualty defense, employment, and general litigation in both state and federal courts. Mr. McFarlane is experienced in all aspects of trial preparation and has handled both jury and bench trials, as well as arbitrations. He is also experienced in various forms of alternative dispute resolution.He previously practiced with Madden, Poliak, MacDougall & Williamson in Seattle, Washington, where his federal and state court litigation practice included injury and property/casualty defense, subrogation, and coverage work. Examples of matters handled include:The defense of a property owner against claims by vessel owners stemming from a catastrophic fire that destroyed a cannery and 35 fishing vessels; Defending numerous employers against injury and death claims;A large subrogation claim involving a fire that destroyed a hops warehouse; and A pollution subrogation claim involving defective fuel tanks.Mr. McFarlane received a degree in history with honors from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, in 1992, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society. He received his Juris Doctor cum laude in 1995 from Tulane Law School, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Tulane Maritime Law Journal. Mr. McFarlane is admitted to practice in Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska. He is admitted to practice in the U.S. district courts for all of these jurisdictions.Mr. McFarlane is a member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States, the Puget Sound Maritime Claims Association, and the Marine Insurance Association of Seattle. He authored Mayday or All Ahead Full for Junk Science: Cella v. United States, 18 Tul. Mar. L.J. 149 (note, 1993). He coauthored Introduction to Maritime Liens, 29 Moore’s Federal Practice Section 705.01 (Matthew Bender 3d ed.).In his spare time, Mr. McFarlane is active in the community and local schools and enjoys skiing, hiking, and coaching his childrens’ soccer and T-ball teams.
