Pat Gage has enjoyed various positions of leadership and management in the pharmaceutical and biotech arenas since 1971. During eighteen years at Hoffmann-La Roche he moved from the Institute of Molecular Biology to V.P., Exploratory Research (Discovery Research). In 1989 he joined Genetics Institute, Inc. first as R&D head and then as Chief Operating Officer. He went on to become President in 1997 after American Home Products Corporation [now Wyeth] completed acquisition of the company. In 1998, Dr. Gage was named President of Wyeth Research, and in 2000 was also named SVP, Science and Technology for Wyeth. In this capacity he served as the chief scientific officer for Wyeth (corporate) and as advisor to the company’s Chairman and CEO as well as the board of directors. Pat retired from Wyeth in June 2002 to pursue a career in biotechnology company creation. Pat currently serves as a Venture Partner with Flagship Ventures, and is Chairman of Neose Technologies [NTEC], and a Director of PDL BioPharma [PDLI]. He is also Chairman of private biopharmaceutical companies: Adnexus Therapeutics and Acceleron Pharma; and a Director of Immune Control. In addition, he serves as a scientific advisor to PerkinElmer, Functional Genetics, Inc. and Warburg Pincus; and serves on the boards of The Philadelphia Orchestra Association and the Biotechnology Institute. Pat earned a bachelors degree (physics) in 1964 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. (biophysics) from the University of Chicago in 1969. |
