L. Patrick Gage, Ph.D., has been a Director of PDL BioPharma since March 2003. Previously, he served as Senior Vice President, Science and Technology at Wyeth, and as scientific advisor to the Wyeth Board of Directors from 2001 until his retirement in 2002. Dr. Gage joined Genetics Institute, Inc. in 1989 as Senior Vice President, Scientific Affairs. In 1997, Wyeth purchased Genetics Institute and appointed him to the position of President of that organization. In 1998, the R&D organizations of Genetics Institute and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals were combined under his leadership as President, Wyeth Research. Prior to Genetics Institute, Dr. Gage served in various management capacities with Hoffmann La-Roche Inc., including Vice President, Exploratory Research from 1985 to 1989. Dr. Gage also serves on the boards of two other public companies, Serono S A and Neose Technologies, and three private companies, Compound Therapeutics, Immune Control and Acceleron Pharma, where he is Chairman. He also serves as an advisor to two private equity firms, Flagship Ventures and Warburg Pincus, and is a board member of two non-profits, the Philadelphia Orchestra Association and the Biotechnology Institute. Dr. Gage holds a bachelor’s degree in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a doctorate in Biophysics from the University of Chicago.
