Past CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield Association and founding CEO of Sutter Health, Patrick Hays’ contributions to healthcare have been significant. At Blue Cross Blue Shield, Pat reversed a 15-year slide in market share, grew revenues to over $80 billion, established innovative strategic alliances with external partners with a special focus on e-commerce, and aggressively moved the company into international markets.

At Sacramento, CA, based Sutter, Pat created one of the most respected integrated healthcare systems in the US, growing revenues 300% and building a two hospital network into a healthcare provider consisting of 15 hospitals, 10 free-standing surgery centers, over 2,600 physicians, an integral 150,000 member health plan, and a full continuum of patient care environments.

In January, 2003, the American College of Health Care Executives recognized Pat’s leadership in healthcare by awarding him its highest honor, The Gold Medal Award.

Pat is a clinical professor in public administration at the University of Southern California and serves on the Board of Directors of Trinity Health, the fourth largest Catholic health system in the US.
