As vice president of EMEA human resources, Oscar Cardona is responsible for shared services functions including compensation & benefits, staffing, employee relations, operations and transfers. Under his leadership, Nike has improved its strategy to encourage diversity within the company.
Before joining Nike, Oscar worked at the Kemper Group in Long Grove, Ill., under the James S. Kemper internship program, which provides scholarships, paid summer jobs and training to university students. He initially handled auto, homeowners and workers compensation injury claims. After graduating, he was offered a full-time job at Kemper, and eventually moved into human relations, serving as an HR recruiter under a development rotation program in the employee relations and benefits/pension design departments. He also managed the company’s HMO program and benefit claims appeals.
Oscar has won several community service honors including the Bridge Builders Community Service Award and the Aloha Youth Football Community Service Award. He has served on several boards including the Beloit College Board of Trustees, the Portland Chapter National Coalition for Community and Justice and the Board of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Oscar’s favorite thing about working at Nike is the company’s passionate environment for sports performance. “Most importantly, it’s about doing what is right no matter what the issue, he said. This is an inspirational standard to try and meet. |
