Mr. Brownstein is nationally recognized for his extensive experience in real estate law, commercial transactions and public policy advocacy. Resident in the firm’s Denver office, his policy practice spans the economic spectrum, extending to telecommunications, financial services, agriculture, tax and health care interests. Mr. Brownstein has helped dozens of major organizations and corporations successfully develop and execute myriad legislative and regulatory strategies, including AT&T, Apollo Private Equity, Toshiba Corporation, Western Union, Comcast, Intelsat, Global Crossing and the National Cable & Telecommunications Association. He has overseen the development and implementation of strategy for such complex matters as: Obtaining approval of the AT&T-Bell South transaction before the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Helping a major telecommunications company emerge from bankruptcy to successfully influence communications policy in Congress and at the FCC Amending the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act to eliminate frivolous lawsuits against private contractors working on behalf of hundreds of America’s district attorneys Helping obtain approval of the Toshiba-Westinghouse merger Securing financing for the construction of a major power plant in East Asia Retrieving a satellite license after the FCC revoked the license from a satellite company Expanding telecommunications law to permit satellite companies to re-use their spectrum to transmit communications via terrestrial wireless facilities Representing the cable industry in successfully protecting the local franchising approval process In light of these and many successes in other legal areas, the National Law Journal has named Mr. Brownstein one of the 100 Most Influential Lawyers in America. Active in community affairs, Mr. Brownstein is involved in many activities on behalf of the University of Colorado and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), where he is currently vice president. He is presently a director of the National Jewish Center for Immunology and Respiratory Medicine and a trustee of the Simon Wiesenthal Center. Mr. Brownstein is a past presidential appointee of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council (1996-2006). Mr. Brownstein has received many awards and recognitions during his career. He is a past recipient of the Distinguished Humanitarian Award and the President’s Award from National Jewish Hospital, the Talmud Leadership Award from AIPAC and the Distinguished Service Award from ArtReach. Mr. Brownstein is a past director of the Denver Symphony and Rose Medical Center and a past honorary director of the ArtReach Foundation and the Boys’ Club of Metro Denver. In 2007, he received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Colorado School of Law.
