Nicholas A. Bumbacco has been the president of R.J. Reynolds Global Products, Inc. (GPI) since September of 2007. Prior to that, he spent two years as president and chief executive officer of Lane Limited, another RAI subsidiary.
Bumbacco has 19 years of U.S. and international tobacco experience with the British American Tobacco Group of Companies and with Reynolds American. He started his tobacco career as a field sales representative for Imperial Tobacco Ltd. in Canada and progressed through a number of managerial positions before moving to the United States in 1994 as the national sales manager, heading up Imperial Tobacco's international expansion.
In 1996, Bumbacco moved to Malaysia as the regional trade marketing director for BAT Malaysia. He returned to the United States in 1999 as the Minneapolis region director for Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation, and moved to B&W’s headquarters as director of specialty markets in 2000. In 2001, Bumbacco was appointed director of sponsorship & HoReCa, overseeing the company’s CART racing program and its consumer communication & entertainment programs. He became director of strategic account management in November of 2001 and held that position until March of 2004. In April of 2004, Bumbacco became vice president of trade marketing at Lane Limited. He was promoted to president and chief executive officer of Lane Limited in September 2005 and assumed his current position at GPI in September of 2007.
Bumbacco holds a bachelor’s of science degree in business management from Lake Superior State University in Michigan.
