Nelson is an associate in the Litigation Practice Group and a member of the White Collar Counseling, Investigations and Defense Team. Nelson has a wealth of trial experience as both a former state and federal prosecutor. Most recently, Nelson was a prosecutor in the United States Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of Wisconsin, where he worked for almost seven years as a Special Assistant United States Attorney and an Assistant United States Attorney. Nelson's broad area of practice ranged from white collar prosecutions to criminal immigration, violations of federal firearms laws, court-authorized wire taps and complex drug conspiracies. As the lead prosecutor on a majority of his cases, Nelson tried several cases to verdict and argued cases before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Prior to joining the United States Attorney's Office, Nelson was an Assistant District Attorney for Milwaukee County. During his tenure as a state prosecutor, Nelson tried many cases involving state criminal narcotics violations, violations of state firearms laws, thefts, and domestic violence. Nelson earned his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School, where he was a member of the ATLA Mock Trial Team that won the 1997 regional competition in Detroit, Michigan, and competed at the national competition in Denver, Colorado. Before attending law school, Nelson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Nelson is active in his community, serving as a parish council member at his church, and as an assistant coach for his daughter's soccer team.
