Mr. Shapiro has extensive experience in all aspects of intellectual property law, with particular emphasis on the preparation and prosecution of worldwide patent applications concerning electrical, optical, mechanical and chemical inventions. As an inventor himself, Mr. Shapiro has received numerous U.S. and foreign patents. Mr. Shapiro was co-counsel to the prevailing party in the landmark Supreme Court case of Blonder Tongue Laboratories, Inc. v. University of Illinois Foundation. He has represented clients before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences of the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and before the International Trade Commission. He has also served as an expert witness in patent infringement litigation. Prior to joining Miles & Stockbridge, Mr. Shapiro served as senior partner of the firm of Shapiro & Shapiro, and before that as a patent examiner in the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and as a patent advisor in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. His experience in both of these positions involved extensive work on antennas and radar.
