Mr. Barnes is a principal with LECG in Washington, D.C. He has over 12 years experience in financial and litigation consulting. Mr. Barnes specializes in forensic accounting and damages analysis. He has advised counsel and clients on a variety of damages issues related to breach of contract, antitrust and patent and trademark infringement cases. He has also prepared expert testimony on behalf of clients in numerous cases involving lost profits and other measurements of damages.
In addition to being a licensed CPA, Mr. Barnes is a certified fraud examiner (CFE). A significant portion of his work has involved the forensic analysis of financial statements and other accounting records. On numerous occasions, Mr. Barnes has been retained to investigate financial statement and other forms of fraud.
Mr. Barnes has also performed numerous business valuations for companies in a variety of industries including; government contracting, retail, publishing, construction and manufacturing. These valuations have been prepared for litigation and non-litigation purposes.
Mr. Barnes consults with clients on a variety of financial and accounting related issues including; determination of economic loss, prejudgment interest calculations, and cost accounting issues. Mr. Barnes also advises clients on SEC and tax related issues and related disclosure requirements.
During the course of his career, Mr. Barnes has been named as a testifying expert witness in several matters involving issues related to damages, appropriateness of accounting practices and merger analysis. He has submitted expert reports on behalf of clients to various federal and state courts as well as the Federal Trade Commission. Mr. Barnes has also been retained by various law firms and private corporations as a "non-testifying" or consulting expert. These engagements have involved a broad range of financial and accounting issues, including; appropriateness of accounting for certain transactions, business valuation; forensic accounting, damage analysis, SEC reporting issues, and merger analysis. |
