Nancy Thorington is a member of the firm's public law group. Prior to joining Meyers Nave, she worked as a senior appellate associate writing appellate briefs and conducting oral argument in California, Washington and Oregon. She also brings over seven years of Indian legal experience. She has worked with numerous Native American tribes, as well as several federal, state and municipal agencies, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, various county planning departments, the California Department of Transportation and the California Department of Forestry.Nancy drafted a variety of tribal codes, including environmental, land use, child welfare, cultural preservation, housing and employment codes that have been adopted by tribes nationwide. She has worked with several tribal organizations on community development plans for zoning, transportation, and access issues and related land use matters. She negotiated a multi-million dollar real estate purchase and financing for two non-profit organizations. In addition, she wrote a guidebook for the California Department of Transportation on tribal consultation requirements for Caltrans employees and contractors, as well as wrote and oversaw over $1.3 million in federal and state grants.Nancy received her J.D. with distinction from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. While in law school, she was Managing Editor, Comment Editor and a staff writer for McGeorge Law Journal. Prior to law school, Nancy was vice president of a financial corporation where she oversaw the escrow department and headed the loan servicing branch. She also taught English at a junior college in Tucson and is a founding member of a music recording studio. Nancy received her B.A. in English and Native American Studies from the University of California at Berkeley. |
