Dr. Cummings also staffs the Sports Medicine Clinic for individuals of all ages who suffer from a sports-related injury, including student-athletes and adult recreational athletes. The Sports Medicine Clinic offers a team of orthopedic surgeons, certified physical therapists, occupational therapists, and an athletic trainer. This program is held at Franklin Orthopedics on Monday mornings from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. during the school year (August through June).
Schooling
Dr. Cummings received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Bates College in Lewiston, Me. She received her Doctor of Medicine degree from Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, NY, and completed a six-year orthopedic surgeon residency at the Harvard Combined Orthopedic Surgery Program in Boston, MA. Dr. Cummings was the first female Chief Resident in the history of Orthopedics at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. Dr. Cummings has completed clinical and research fellowships in sports medicine and orthopedic research. Her work in sports medicine included caring for the Rookie Team (Lowell Spinners) of the Red Sox Organization.
Professional Interest
Dr. Cummings most recently served as an orthopedic surgeon at the Center for Bone and Joint Surgery located in Port Angeles, Washington. She has a special interest in sports medicine. Dr. Cummings is a member of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and was honored to serve as an expert for their "Standard Setting Exercise" and as an examiner for the Board Certification Examination. Her current research interests are in posterolateral knee instability and ACL injuries in the young female athlete.
