Ms. Siebert, a founding partner, has been involved in the financial services business for over 40 years as analyst, broker, investment banker and regulator. In 1967 she became the first woman to own a seat on the New York Stock Exchange. She incorporated her firm, Muriel Siebert & Co., Inc. in 1969. In 1975 she announced that her firm would become one of the first discount brokerage operations, a move vehemently opposed by most of Wall Street. In 1977 she was appointed to the post of New York State Banking Commissioner where she served for five tumultuous years. Ms. Siebert served on the Advisory Committee of the Financial Accounting Standards Board where she acquired extensive knowledge of state and local government finance. While the Superintendent of Banks, Ms. Siebert was a director of the Urban Development Corporation, the New York Job Development Authority and the State of New York Mortgage Agency.Ms. Siebert is actively involved in several state, local and national organizations. She serves on the Board of the Greater New York Council of Boy Scouts of America and the Business Committee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She is a founding member and formerly served as President of the Board of the Women’s Forum, an organization of 250 preeminent women in the New York area that has expanded into an international leadership network. |
