Monica Neuman is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Firm’s Boston office. She is a member of the Health Department where she represents a wide range of clients, including tax-exempt hospital systems, academic medical centers, pharmaceutical companies, and physician practice groups. She provides regulatory and transactional representation to such clients in connection with acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic affiliations, conversions to tax-exempt status, and other transactional matters. She has routinely served as special health care counsel on national acquisitions advising on state licensure and determination of need law. Recent experience includes state regulatory change of ownership proceedings for hospitals, and nursing home chains in going private transactions.
In addition, a component of Monica’s practice focuses on emerging life sciences issues, advising hospital, industry, insurance and provider clients on matters relating to research, conflicts of interest and research misconduct.. Along these lines, Monica assists health care clients in implementing strategic research strategies, structuring research operational and compliance infrastructure, and in developing guidelines for the appropriate relationships between providers and industry.
Prior to joining McDermott, Monica worked as an associate in the corporate and financial services department for an international law firm, where she focused on international capital markets transactions, corporate finance, acquisitions and corporate bankruptcy in the United States and Latin America.
Monica provides pro bono services on behalf of Lawyers for Children America and Medical Legal Partnership for Children at the Boston Medical Center, was the recipient of the John Edward Smith Child Advocacy Award, and serves on the Firm's national coordinating committee for pro bono activities.
She is admitted to practice in Florida and Massachusetts.
