Mitchell E. Plaat is vice president of procurement for Con-way Inc. (previously known as CNF Inc.) is a $4.2 billion transportation and logistics company with businesses in less-than-truckload motor carriage, truckload and brokerage services, logistics, warehousing, supply chain management and trailer manufacturing.
In this position, Mr. Plaat oversees the procurement and specifications of all supplier goods and revenue equipment to meet the operating, fleet resource, freight handling and service center network needs of all of Con-way's subsidiaries (Con-way Freight, Con-way Transportation, Menlo Worldwide and Road Systems).
Mr. Plaat has been with Con-way/CNF for 17 years. He joined the company in 1989 as a manager of materials purchasing. In 1993, he was promoted to operations manager, contract services where he was responsible for supply and materials purchasing, and warehouse and mail operations.
In 1999, he was promoted to director of contract services where he was responsible for the management and procurement of indirect spend for CNF Inc. and its subsidiaries. These duties included preparation of request for proposals, contract negotiation and administration of contracts in areas of e-procurement, p-card, IT procurement, travel, warehouse operations, mail operations and publications.
Mr. Plaat is a native of Portland, OR and holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Cal State University at Bakersfield, CA and holds professional affiliations with the Institute of Supply Management and Northwest Supply Management. Mr. Plaat is based at Con-way’s administrative and technology headquarters in Portland, OR. |
