Mike Roberts started working for KRCG in April of 1995. Prior to coming to KRCG Mike worked as weekend weathercaster in Columbia as well as serving as morning News Anchor/fill-in host for KFRU radio.
Mike grew up in Maplewood, Missouri and graduated from Christian Brothers College High School (CBC) in 1985. He was recruited to play soccer at West Point; and he attended the United States Military Academy Preparatory School (USMAPS) at Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey where he was first introduced to Army life.
He briefly played NCAA Division I college soccer at the University of Evansville in Indiana. Soon after leaving Evansville, Mike began pursuing a career in radio broadcasting. In 1990, Mike graduated from Fontbonne University in St. Louis with a degree in Communication/Broadcasting. Soon after, while working at KWIX/KRES Radio in Moberly, Mike decided to study meteorology at the University of Missouri in Columbia.. and the rest is history.
Mike is a proud member of the National Weather Association. In 1998, he was honored by the by the NWA when he was awarded the NWA Seal of Approval. To earn the seal, he was required to pass a rigorous written test covering many aspects of atmospheric and natural sciences and meet the demanding broadcast standards for on-air presentation set forth by the NWA Broadcast Meteorology Committee.
In August 2005, Mike was mobilized and deployed to Iraq as an engineer officer with the Missouri Army National Guard's 110th Engineer Battalion in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He briefly served as a staff operations officer. In addition, he worked as a platoon leader conducting convoy operations and as an IED hunter, finding roadside bombs. After 16-months off the air, Mike returned to the KRCG WeatherLab in December 2006.
Community involvement is important to Mike. Every year he makes dozens of public appearances at local schools, civic, community and church groups to talk about weather, the military and the importance of staying in school. He is active with the American Cancer Society, the March of Dimes and the Marine Corps League, among others.
Mike is committed to his family, his church and his community. Mike and his wife, Kim, are completing their second decade of marriage and have 3 children and 2 chocolate labs: "Chocolate" and "Moose... the weather lab."
