Mike Pettine Biography :

Mike Pettine (pronounced PET-tin) entered his 2nd season as outside linebackers coach and marked his 5th year as a Raven in 2006...Last season, 2 Pro Bowl bookends, Adalius Thomas (A.D.) and Terrell Suggs (T-Sizzle), made an impact at the hard-hitting OLB position, combining for 11 of the team's final 18 sacks (in the last 5 games) on the season and accounting for 6 sacks in the final 3 games.

OVERVIEW: Appointed outside linebackers coach in 2005 and worked closely with linebackers coach Jeff FitzGerald...Named defensive assistant in 2004...Pettine spent 2 years working with the defensive line after 1 year as a coaching assistant/quality control specialist following a season in football video operations...Also a computer specialist for the Ravens, Mike assisted in producing coaching programs, combining video to assist in developing playbooks for offense and defense and analyzing game video of opponents...A high school head coach for 7 years...Pettine's squad at North Penn high school was featured on ESPN's original documentary The Season...Spent 2 years at the University of Pittsburgh as a graduate assistant (defense) under head coach Johnny Majors.

2002-2005: (with Baltimore) 2005: Pettine's OLBs set new marks...Despite being double and sometimes triple teamed, "T-Sizzle" posted a career-high 82 tackles, finished 2nd on the team with 8 sacks and tied a career high with 6 FFs..."A.D" (Thomas) set a new career high with 9 sacks and set a franchise record with 3 defensive returns for TDs...Adalius was voted team Most Valuable Player by the Baltimore media...LB Peter Boulware remained the Ravens' sack king, reaching 70 for his career and hitting the 500-tackle milestone...LB Roderick Green played in 16 games, subbing on defense (posting 2 sacks), but finishing 2nd in special teams tackles (17). 2004: Promoted to defensive assistant and helped coach the defensive line with Ravens veteran coach Rex Ryan. 2003: Assisted and coached the defensive line with DL coach Rex Ryan...Using the latest computer technology, Pettine assisted in developing playbooks, producing scouting reports, and analyzing game video of opponents as a quality control specialist. 2002: Worked under Jon Dube, the director of football video operations...Also assisted the Ravens' coaching staff.

1997-2001: (with North Penn HS) 1999: Pettine's squad was featured on ESPN's original documentary The Season...Show aired in 2000...Team won 45 games in 5 seasons, including the 1st of 2 playoff appearances in school history. 1997: Was named head football coach at Lansdale, PA's North Penn HS.

1995-96: (with William Tennent HS) 1996: Team established a school record with 9 wins. 1995: Named head coach.

1993-94: (with U. of Pittsburgh) Served as a defensive graduate assistant under head coach Johnny Majors.

1988-92: (with Central Bucks West HS) Was an assistant coach for his father, Mike Pettine Sr., recently retired as the winningest coach in the history of HS football in the state of PA...Dad had a 326-42-4 record in 33 seasons.

PERSONAL: Graduate of the University of Virginia with a degree in economics...Played at UVA under head coach George Welsh (1984-1987) and was a 2-year letterman at free safety (1986-87)...Led the team in interceptions in 1986 with a school-record 3 INTs in 1 game (vs. North Carolina State)...Attended Central Bucks West (Doylestown, PA) HS...Lettered in football and basketball...Was All-State at quarterback and defensive back...Mike and his wife, Marlene, live in Westminster MD, with their 3 children: Megan (12), Ryan (9) and Katie (5).
