Michael D. (Mike) Larson, senior vice president and chief actuary, is responsible for the management and leadership of the actuarial function at Collins, developing actuarial tools and data to support brokers in acquiring and serving clients.
Professional Background
Mr. Larson joined Collins in 2004 after a 17-year career with The St. Paul Companies (known from 2004 as St. Paul Travelers). Among several positions held by Mr. Larson at The St. Paul was that of vice president of loss reserves, Corporate Actuarial. In that post he was responsible on a global basis for total reserves in excess of $15 billion, reviewing reserving methodology and evaluating results of all quarterly financial closings. These responsibilities also involved frequent interaction with rating agencies, regulatory authorities, external auditors and senior executives.
At The St. Paul Mr. Larson also was vice president-strategic planning and development, managing all aspects of the company's merger and acquisition activities. He successfully completed 25 transactions (including mergers, acquisitions and divestitures) ranging in size from $1 million to $200 million, including 15 in the United States and 10 in other countries. In leading the strategic planning function for The St. Paul, a global property-casualty insurance and reinsurance provider, Mr. Larson developed successful relationships with companies in the U.S. insurance and reinsurance marketplace, as well as in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom, including Lloyd's.
Mr. Larson also served as vice president and chief financial officer of a St. Paul profit center, which recorded annual gross written premiums of between $1 billion and $1.5 billion. In that role he managed division finance and actuarial functions, including financial reporting, monitoring, financial planning, pricing support, loss reserve analysis and profitability monitoring.
Mr. Larson is a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
Mr. Larson holds a bachelor's degree with concentrations in mathematics, business and criminal sociology from the University of Minnesota. |
