Mickey Levitan has been the Chief Human Resource Officer at Emmis since 2001. Prior to joining Emmis he was the founder and CEO of an Indianapolis-based educational technology company.
Levitan’s previous HR experience includes serving as Director of Human Resources for Apple Computer (1998-2000) and as Executive Director of Organizational Effectiveness & Assistant to the President of Cummins Engine (1996-98). While at Cummins Levitan led human resources for its largest business unit. At Apple he was responsible for business units comprising one third of the company.
Before joining the business world Levitan did many years of community development work and then served in the federal government. The community development work started with the Peace Corps in West Africa (1980-83) and continued in Asia with Save the Children for nine years. His initial assignments were in Nepal and Bangladesh (1986-1988). He then became Country Director for the program in Thailand (1988-94). With the government Levitan served in the Clinton White House (1994-95) as a White House Fellow.
