Michael Socarras is partner at the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Firm's Washington, D.C. office. He is head of the International Dispute Resolution practice in Washington, D.C.
Michael has served as principal counsel in a wide range of complex commercial, intellectual property and regulatory disputes in U.S. federal and state courts. Internationally, he has served as lead counsel in numerous large cases, arbitrations and dispute negotiations on behalf of U.S., Asian, European and Latin American clients, including products liability and civil law class actions. Michael has represented Asian and Latin American clients before international organizations, including fraud and debarment proceedings before the sanctions committee of the World Bank.
Michael has also advised Asian, European and Latin American clients on a wide range of corporate matters, including advice to directors and officers on international corporate governance, counseling joint venture partners, and advising companies on the extraterritorial application of national laws.
Michael served as a law clerk to the Honorable James L. Buckley, U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. He is past chair, International Law Committee of the Missouri Bar Association, and a member of the American Bar Association, Sections on Litigation and International Law. He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Missouri and various federal courts.
