Michael Messersmith joined American Capital in 2005. Prior to joining American Capital, Mr. Messersmith practiced in the corporate group of Kirkland & Ellis LLP in Washington, D.C. where his practice focused on private equity, public and private mergers & acquisitions, secured lending, securities, fund formation and counseling to corporate clients regarding corporate governance and general corporate matters. Prior to Kirkland & Ellis LLP, Mr. Messersmith was an associate in the corporate department of Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York City where he practiced acquisition finance, commercial banking/syndicated lending, mergers & acquisitions and corporate finance (equity and high-yield bond issuances).
Mr. Messersmith received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and a Law Fellow. He received his A.M. from Harvard University where he was a Teaching Fellow and his A.B. in Classical Languages and French from the College of Charleston. He also studied classical languages and Sanskrit at the Université de Lille in Lille, France. Mr. Messersmith is a member of the New York and District of Columbia Bars. |
