Michael J. McGrail M.D. has been active in the Midwest medical arena for over 20 years. He has previously practiced at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center, a 1000 bed academic teaching institution, where he achieved extensive renown as a Director, and Attending Surgeon, in the Level 1 Trauma Service, as well as being noted as the Educational Program Director. He was also an Attending Surgeon at Little Company of Mary Hospital and Palos Community Hospital, both private practice, community-based hospitals with over 400 beds.
As the Executive Medical Director for Magna Health Systems, Dr. McGrail was responsible for daily operations, quality assurance oversight and long-range strategic initiatives in the surgery center. During his tenure, he increased surgeries by 110% annually while reducing expenses through securing the proper referral base. He is extremely versed in working with Physicians and Physician Groups to insure their admittance of patients and services to healthcare facilities.
Dr. McGrail was also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Chicago, where he taught medical students and residents on surgical service. He was a pioneer in the development and refinement of Laparoscopic surgery in the early 1990's. His notable presentations have been at the International Society of Cardiovascular Surgery, in Monte Carlo, Monaco, and the Center for Vascular Disease-Columbus Hospital/Northwestern University Medical Center. His most recent publication was in the field of Gastrointestinal Surgery.
Dr. McGrail is a graduate of the Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, with certification as a Diplomat in the American Board of Surgery in 1989. He has also attained membership in the American College of Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, Illinois State Medial Society Federated Ambulatory Surgery Association, and the Illinois Freestanding Surgical Center Association.
