With more than 30 years of experience in the field of computer science, Dr. Michael Lay's knowledge ranges from system architecture and programming to leading large implementation teams. His expertise in information storage and retrieval systems has developed from concentrated study of indexing theory in graduate school where he graduated with a PhD in Computer and Information Science. Later, while teaching at the University of Maryland, he further developed his ideas of information retrieval in distributed databases and honed his programming skills by implementing many new techniques for distributed database retrieval. While employed by Computer Sciences Corporation, Dr. Lay led several large projects that implemented ground control systems for NASA near-earth satellites, where he contributed considerably to the design and implementation of database engines supporting these facilities. After joining Online Computer Systems, later Reed Technology and Information Services (RTIS), Inc., Dr. Lay concentrated on the design and implementation of compact, speedy indexing and retrieval techniques. He also spearheaded the development of some of the first commercial CD-ROM database products known to the industry. At InfoZen, Dr. Lay has focused his efforts on building next-generation information systems centered around the Internet and database applications. He is an accomplished designer and a proven implementer of complex systems, and employs a wide variety of design and implementation tools. |
