Description of Practice:
Michael Joyce is a partner in the firm's Orange County office. He practices in all areas of real estate development including acquisitions, dispositions, financing, leasing and construction of office, industrial, retail and residential development projects.
Mr. Joyce has extensive expertise in the area of residential development including the acquisition, entitlement, development and sale of master planned communities, merchant builder representation and Department of Real Estate documentation.
He is a recognized expert in the area of land use, redevelopment and municipal finance and has acted as developer's counsel in connection with some of the largest redevelopment projects in Southern California. These projects have involved the negotiation of numerous Development Agreements, Owner Participation Agreements, and Disposition and Development Agreements, negotiating and defending entitlements, and advising clients on the CEQA aspects of their projects. Additionally, Mr. Joyce has assisted numerous developers in the formation of complex financing districts for their projects.
Mr. Joyce has been a frequent panelist and lecturer for such programs such as CEB and BIA, and is a member of the Urban Land Institute, the International Conference of Shopping Centers and the American Bar Association. Mr. Joyce has published several articles relating to land use and environmental matters, such as "Whose Property Is It? The Latest on Regulatory Takings." He has also co-authored "Playing the Contaminated Field: Understanding CERCLA for Limited Liability," and "Turning Environmentally Impaired Properties into Development Opportunities."
Educational History:
Mr. Joyce received his A.B. degree from Princeton University, with honors, in 1974, and his J.D. from the University of Southern California, where he was awarded the Order of the Coif, in 1977. |
