Mr. Hoffman is a Managing Director of Riverstone. He is based in New York.
Prior to joining Riverstone, Mr. Hoffman was Senior Managing Director and head of the M&A Advisory business of The Blackstone Group for 15 years, where he also served on the firm’s Principal Group Investment Committee as well as its executive committee. During his tenure at The Blackstone Group, Mr. Hoffman led the $10 billion merger of Northern States Power with New Century Energy, resulting in the first coast-to-coast U.S. utility company. He also advised Louisville Gas & Electric in the $5 billion acquisition of LG&E by Powergen of the United Kingdom. In 2001, Mr. Hoffman was asked to assist the Governor of the State of California in his efforts to manage the short-term financial shocks to the state and structure the state’s $12 billion energy cost financing. In 1982, Mr. Hoffman was named Managing Director and co-head of the Mergers & Acquisitions Department at Smith Barney, Harris Upham & Co.
Mr. Hoffman serves on the Boards of Directors of Buckeye, Kramer Junction, Microban International and Onconova Therapeutics and the management committee of Topaz. In addition, he serves on several not-for profit boards including that of Lenox Hill Hospital, Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital and The Nature Conservancy. Mr. Hoffman also served as a Management Associate in the Executive Office of the President during the Ford Administration. He received his B.A. and M.A. from Northwestern University and his M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School. |
