For more than twenty-three years Michael Harney has provided engineering and management expertise at Scientific Atlanta as the company has grown to one of the premier providers of analog and digital set-top equipment to cable systems around the world. Currently Harney is responsible for all facets of the company’s rollout of its digital systems including the Explorer® 2200, 3200, 3150, 3250HD, 4200, 4200HD, 4200 DVB and 8000 and Webstar, modem and Webstar Voice over IP Products.
Following three years at IBM in senior staff engineering positions, Harney joined Scientific Atlanta in 1980. After serving in a variety of engineering positions through the 1980s, he was named vice president, subscriber engineering in 1990 and moved to vice president, broadband engineering in 1994. In December 1995, he became vice president and general manager of digital video systems at Scientific Atlanta, and with this position came the opportunity to lead the launch of Scientific Atlanta’s digital systems worldwide. In February 2002, he was named Sr. Vice President and President of Subscriber Networks, the business that develops and markets the company’s interactive digital set-tops, DOCIS modems, digital headend systems, voice over IP and digital network central systems.
Harney holds twelve patents for a variety of interdiction, subscriber terminal, and descrambling technologies. A BSEE graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, he also holds a MSEE degree from Syracuse University and an MBA from Emory University in Atlanta. He is a member of the Cable Telecommunications Engineers, IEEE. and a member of the Board of Directors for Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter, American Red Cross. |
