Michael Dumas, a veteran of nine seasons as a player in the NFL, is entering his third season as a member of the Dolphins’ staff and the first in his current role. For the past two years, he has assisted with player development and special teams.
Dumas was originally selected by the Houston Oilers in the second round of the 1991 draft, and played with Houston (1991-93), Buffalo (1994), Jacksonville (1995) and San Diego (1997-2000) during his NFL tenure. He appeared in 102 regular season games, over that time, including 53 starts. He recorded 363 tackles, seven interceptions and five sacks. He also posted 50 special teams tackles.
Dumas was a four-year letterman at Indiana University (1987-90), where he earned his degree in arts & sciences. He was a first-team All-Big Ten selection as a senior when he was a semi-finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, given annually to the nation’s top defensive back. Prior to that, he attended Lowell High School in his hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
In addition to his work with the Dolphins, Dumas also owns a mortgage company in Plantation, Fla. He and his wife, Clemencia, have a son, Michael, Jr., and two daughters, Meela and Gabriela. He also has two stepsons, Gregory and Daniel. |
